Breaking Down… and Trusting Him in the Journey.
One year ago, hubby and I drove through Cairo, Illinois on our way to pick up Cousin Carl for Thanksgiving. Hubby pulled into the historic district for what would be our very last time. Although, unbeknownst to us at the time—we may have suspected it!? And I’m so glad we did. Because we captured this gorgeous, autumnal photo of my favorite house.
More than a few hard things have happened to me in this town (during my crime fighting days) including waiting in the local jail for four hours while my husband came to retrieve me. I actually discovered this town bc of a hard thing. But I remember praying “God please, please, PLEASE don’t let me break down here!” as my car literally died.
With no tow company within hours and no safe place to wait except the jail (which had a few bloodied and sketchy characters come through) all I could do was wait and trust. I remember thinking “GOD, you must have a really good reason for breaking me down in Cairo, of all places!?” Google it and you’ll see what I mean. But I trusted His goodness and His purpose for the journey. Much like I trust Him now… And my faith was proved NOT to be in vain! He indeed was faithful in the journey.
In kind, God must very good reason for bringing me all the way to Hometown, OK and not letting my mama live to enjoy it. As a little, elderly and soon-to-widowed church lady said as she dropped off dinner for mama “Without Jesus, I don’t know how I’d make it!?” And it’s so true… God will call us to many hard things and seasons through out our lives. But He promises to be right there with us every step of the way. All we have to do is invite Him in… and trust Him in the journey.
I pray if you’re going through a hard season you’ll lean in and trust Him to be faithful. I pray He’ll strengthen you as you tackle the hard things. I pray you’ll find meaning (and purpose) in the journey. Because in the end, it’s worth knowing… we’re all meant for so much more than this earthly life!
I can do all things… [especially breaking down in CAIRO, and moving to Hometown Oklahoma, and fighting crime for #cousinCarl, and caring for my sweet, sweet mama…] through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13
