Godly Mamas and Good Water… [one year later]

It was the Clifford women who gathered early that second morning to sing as we waited the arrival of others. Her favorite hymn was Rock of Ages. Mama knew (and sang) every word of each stanza. She likely played it on the piano thousands of times over her lifetime.  “While I draw this fleeting breath,…

Prayers of Blessings… [and tears]

Anybody who knows me at all, knows I’m a crier. As my family will attest, one risen lump in my throat and it’s ‘water works’ city. My grandmother, Nellie, was a crier. So much so, her crying became folly for a long-standing, ‘inside’ family joke…  Around the late seventies, at the end of a very…

A Trusted Friend… [in a time of need and grief]

One year ago, I made a new friend. But not the kind you’d expect, I met my new Target store.  I sat in this Target shopping center while my mama braved a calcium drip at twice the speed. (Although, I told her not to do it.) We were becoming regulars at dropping her off at…

Journeying Well In Humble Heart…

Much has been said in recent weeks about the importance of kindness, gentleness, and humility. Often, in our society, these attributes are sorely overlooked and characteristics such as personality, charisma, and eloquence are elevated. I love the way James Baker phrased it when referring to his good friend, Pres. H.W. Bush. He said “He was…

WHY I Give… A Lesson My Grandmother Taught Me

My grandma always gave a little something to every organization who solicited her (ie: Red Cross, etc..) I’m beyond convinced she based this practice on biblical truth. It always impressed me how she lived her faith like that… It is very easy to say no to a piece of mail!? *********** When…

Hope is life-giving. And Jesus is our living hope! Hope is life-giving. And Jesus is our living hope! He brings us out of death and despair—and places within us “the hope of glory” (Col. 1:27).

Hope is the characterization of our salvation in Christ. And where there is Hope, there is life–abundantly (John 10:10). Who wouldn’t want to share the good news of a living hope with a world in desperate need of a Savior?

The presence of living hope in our lives transforms us from the inside out. And when we rely on our hope in Him for the abundant life, our lives are filled with joy. HOPE is meant to be shared, y’all!

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. In His great mercy, He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Peter 1:3).

“May the God of Hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Roman’s 15:13).

Share the good news of everlasting Hope, friend! And if you find yourself in need of eternal hope, my inbox is always open. 💕

I think the biggest fallacy we have as mothers is I think the biggest fallacy we have as mothers is that our children no longer need us after they turn 18. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Being a mom means being a lifetime prayer warrior.

“Her children rise up and call her blessed” (Proverbs 31:28a).

Happy Mother’s Day, friends! Hug your mama— 💕

Being a mom means being a lifetime prayer warrior, Being a mom means being a lifetime prayer warrior, a burden bearer, a righteous hand lifter, a counselor, a BFF, a cheerleader, an uncelebrated hero, a future matriarch, a legacy builder, a lifelong sacrificer, a chauffeur, a teacher, a nurse, a stylist, a life-giver, a virtue builder, a budget stretcher, a sister in Christ, and much, much more. Being a mom is a job you do selflessly, even in death.

The story of Habakkuk wrestling with the question, The story of Habakkuk wrestling with the question, “Why do bad things happen?” reminds us, though the storms of life rage, God is still present. God is still good–and faithful!

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess for He who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:23).

I so desperately wanted to return from my 40 days of Lent and social vacay with clarity on my current life circumstances, yet I still dwell in the land of Habakkuk. So, I wait. And I trust. The great theologian and Victorian preacher, Charles Spurgeon, explains hope like this, “Hope itself is like a star, not to be seen in the sunshine, but to be discovered in the night of adversity.”

Adversity is often a tool of correction or refinement. The promise of a future hope reminds us, our suffering is never wasted. And always worth the journey.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11).

Hope is still alive–and working for our good. Even in seasons of adversity. 💕
