How to Love in Challenging Times… [a true story]
“It’s a bad day for beautiful trees.” I said to the foreman as we stood there assessing the damage. The cuts already made… and the damage done. Alas, there was no turning back. What once was a tree that brought me immense joy in a season of hard was now mangled beyond repair. And would soon be gone, forever.
I’d like to say “I kept my complete Christlikeness in check,” but I’d be lying… The condition of my heart wrecked in the fury of amputated limbs. Amends were made [on both parts], but the reminder remained. The challenge “to love” rarely announces itself in a moment of loveliness. Grace for the foreman. Grace for the ill-tempered woman. And grace-upon-grace for the tree trimmer who took a hatchet to a scalpel’s job!?
Friends, don’t allow challenges to derail your Christlikeness. Instead use your [love] challenge, to…
“Wear God’s love. It is your all-purpose, basic garment. Never be without it.” – Col. 3:14
“To be so full of God’s love, I no longer fathom speaking an unkind word or committing an unkind deed.” This is my quest, join me?!
The Love Challenge is a strategy for accepting the greatest challenge ever issued to mankind—loving a broken, unlovable world one challenge at a time. I can’t guarantee you it will be easy, but I can promise you it will be totally worth it!
