The Secret [Lesson] of Life…

Humility isn’t exactly a characteristic we value much less elevate nowadays… “Humility has a dank and shameful smell to the worldly, the scent of failure, lowliness and obscurity.”* But Jesus came into this world humble in birth and he died on the cross equally in stature. He set the finest example in humility for all mankind by washing the feet of his disciples. And He did so knowing Judas would betray him. 

Each year, like so many others, I choose a word of the year. As 2019 closes in, I feel as if the word Humility somehow chose me this year and honestly I’m not quite ready to let her go. So much I have to learn in this lesson called life… but the lesson of humility keeps my eyes forever focused on the cross and humbled at His feet. 

Only after I recognize how spiritually bankrupt I am without God’s love, can I ever begin to fathom the idea of loving Him to the extent of being so full… HUMILITY is at the very heart of the Love Challenge. So full of His love, I love my neighbor as myself. So full of His love, I love my enemy. So full of His love, I love when it’s hard… even when it’s very hard! 

Difficult people and circumstances are who and what makes the Love Challenge so necessary!? And so challenging!? The Love Challenge is not for the faint of heart. You’ll be required to exercise some self-control, grace, and ever-loving kindness! And most definitely, mercy and forgiveness will be needed… But most of all you’ll need a LOVE for the Heavenly Father and a humble heart anguished for a lost and hurting world. 

“For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you… that you might know the love which I have especially for you.” 2 Cor. 2:4

Oh, how the world needs to see and believe. What the world truly needs is love… Can the world count on us in 2020!? If so, I’d love to hear from you. How we choose to walk out His love, each and every day, through our words and deeds, indeed, will be our greatest challenge!? 

“To be so FULL of God’s Love, I could not fathom speaking an unkind word or committing an unkind deed.” That is my quest… join me!?
