How to Find Rest… [and Peace]
When living in Nashville, I often noticed my best work as a voice coach immediately followed a vacation. Time away from the pressures of life brought clarity and refueled my creative self. I would find my self slaying session after session. But after six years of walking in back-to-back life crises’ [which I don’t recommend😂], God was beckoning me to a season of rest. Being the perfectionist that I am, I needed it to be a season that made sense. So, I set my eyes on the summer.
Taking a social media break was so good for my soul, heart, and mind. I needed a rest, God was beckoning me to “Be still” [Psalm 46;10]. And I longed to hear His voice ringing loudly in my ears, once again.
During this scheduled time away from social media, I desired to set new rhythms and re-engage in my reading life. [You may remember my not being “ready for words” after losing my mama to cancer]. So, I rearranged my devotion time [and style] to better fit my current season. I’m [now] routinely rotating in new acquisitions and my reading life is [finally] back up to speed. I’m a “happier” me for having spent the time taking care of myself.
Resting refuels us for the next leg of the journey. New seasons will bring new struggles, worries, doubts, and fears. But PEACE is our companion.
“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.” – Psalm 4:8
If God is calling you to a season of rest, I hope you’ll take Him up on it. TRUST in His faithfulness, friend. He will see you to the other side. How has a vacation from social media or in real life brought you clarity and/or refueled you creatively? What are some of your best practices for spending time with the Lord? As always, I’d love to hear… 💕
