LOVE Your Enemies… [A How-To].
Let your enemies bring out the BEST in you… not the worst.
“To you who are ready for the truth, I say this: LOVE your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the energies of prayer for that person. If someone slaps you in the face, stand there and take it. If someone grabs your shirt, giftwrap your best coat and make a present of it. If someone takes unfair advantage of you, use the occasion to practice the servant life. No more tit-for-tat stuff. Live generously.” (Luke 6:27-30).
As hubby so playfully reminded, the first step in changing your behavior is admitting you have a problem. So, here I am checking in with the world to say I’m preachin’ the love challenge to myself all day—everyday! Some days, I’m a big winner when it comes to loving others as God does. And some days, let’s just say, I need the reminder.
“To be so full of God’s love, I could not fathom speaking an unkind word or committing an unkind deed.”
Lord, help me to respond with love, kindness, and gentleness when confronted with challenging circumstances. Help me bridle my emotions and instead overflow with the fullness of Your love and mercy. Help me to see past the annoying behaviors and see the hurt. Lord, continue to bless me with difficult situations and people allowing me the opportunity to become more Christlike. And finally, Lord, teach me to shine bright by living [and loving], generously!
Love (and light) is what the world needs to see, to believe. Are you a willing vessel?
“Not only to be so full of God’s love, but to shine bright for all to see.”
